Bolton Central School District – Basic School Philosophy
The Basic School Philosophy of Bolton Central School represents the ideals and goals for which we strive.

To explore Bolton Landing schools, please visit their website at: http://www.boltoncsd.org/

Bolton Central School is a rural school district involving the students of the Town of Bolton, plus a small portion of the students of the Towns of Hague and Horicon, located in Warren County, New York. Our students come from diverse cultural, social and economic backgrounds. Therefore, Bolton Central School has an obligation to meet the needs of a diverse school population. Being a single building K-12 facility, Bolton Central School clearly recognizes the individuality of each student and is concerned with all phases of student development and growth. Mindful of these individual differences of all students, the school strives to make equal educational opportunities available to all students. We believe that co-curricular activities and personal skills are an important part of participation in well-developed and complete educational programs. We believe that everyone involved in the educational process must adapt to current situations, as well as, be involved with and develop future direction, being mindful of the obligations and responsibilities of citizens in a democratic society.

Although Bolton Central School accepts primary responsibility for educating our youth, it must be recognized that a partnership with parents and home life must exist for this responsibility to be positive and complete. This partnership must also include other agencies, namely support groups, church and community who share in developing high standards of moral, social, aesthetic and ethical values. We believe goals of education are best achieved when a climate of respect exists, that fosters in the individual a sense of self-personal worth and dignity of others and their property.

We believe students should have an opportunity to excel and accomplish in recognizable ways, as well as, the freedom to fail and make mistakes in a way that offers redemptive possibilities. Students must be prepared equally to function properly and successfully in society, without regard of their post high school ambitions. We believe that education is both a right and a privilege. Therefore, above all else, we are dedicated to providing a high quality education, an obligation that will be assumed by faculty, students, administration and community.

It is the role of the faculty to make every effort to develop in each student a desire for learning, competency on specific subject areas, and recognition of his/her own abilities and self worth. Our teachers must create an atmosphere that allows both faster and slower learning students to maximize their potentials. Teachers and students should treat each other with dignity and respect. The students are encouraged to recognize their own responsibility to participate actively in the learning process and to conduct themselves in a manner that allows maximum learning opportunities for themselves as well as for others.

In order for Bolton Central School to succeed in the optimum, it is important that the entire educational community take pride in the school and vigorously supports curriculum, programs and activities. Parents must encourage and promote a worthy learning atmosphere in the home and become involved as much as possible with the progress of their students and as understanding as possible with this philosophy as well as the goals and objectives of the school. This Basic School Philosophy will be supported by Goals and Objectives, which will reflect input from all constituencies. This Philosophy document shall be reviewed every five years to ensure it remains contemporary and remains useful.
